How do we do it?
DISCIPLINE: Borinquen's rigorous programming and schedule provide the structure and role modeling that youth need to succeed.
INCENTIVE: Borinquen students are challenged with high expectations, which provide incentive to aim high and reach their potential.
SUCCESS: Urban youth - girls and young women, boys and young men, from economically challenged families- have excelled. 90% of these students have pursued college degrees.
Since 1981, Borinquen Dance Theatre has motivated countless young women and men to succeed. These young people invest thousands of hours of disciplined practice and training, as required for membership in this elite dance troupe.
Members adhere to a rigorous schedule. No exceptions. Dancers quickly learn how to manage their time between schooling and training. Dancers know they must maintain their grades - a requirement that creates an incentive for them to graduate and pursue a college degree.
Thanks to our supporters, BDT has succeeded for more than a quarter century, receiving recognition such as the President’s Committee on the Arts & the Humanities, the New York State Archives Project and the Arts & Cultural of Rochester.
